The Scimitar 9 Jan 2018
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Good morning to everyone with particular mention to the newcomer 2018….
I trust that everyone has recovered from their celebrations over the festive break…and everybody is sufficiently rested in order to face the new challenges that we are to encounter….I am confident that this year will be a great year for the Club, all its Members and their families….
For all the staff and us two in the office the festive break came at just the right time…our batteries were really needing to be recharged and we are now ready for whatever gets thrown our way….(should I mention again, or is it possibly still)….
A new year indicates the start of the second half of the cricket season and it also means that our winter sports are going to start training for their respective codes….
Last weekend the cricket section hosted their very popular 6-a-side tournament….and despite the scorching temperatures, the teams all survived and we had two Northerns teams compete the final…..so for fear of lynching, I am not going to ask who the winner was….) Suffice to say that there was much singing and dancing (and maybe a bit of alcohol consumption too) at the successful conclusion of the day…and celebrations went long into the evening….
The cricket boys are in full swing at the club this weekend, but the Juniors will only begin next week to coincide with the opening of the school term.
As I mentioned, all the winter sports will be starting their pre-season antics, (to work off some of the festive cheer that we may have accumulated)….so please contact your respective chairmen or coaches regarding the dates and times of start up.
I have noticed that the running section have kicked up a gear or two and their preparations for the Comrades are in full swing…. Wednesdays are a hub of activity with their Club runs (every week I see the car park is a little more busy) and every morning I get my daily wake-up call (or two) from CMS telling ne that someone has set the alarm off….So thanks for that guys, one of the fringe benefits I didn’t really sign up for… but to all the runners, may your preparations go according to plan to ensure that you achieve each of your goals this year….
I’m sure as everyone knows, the joker remains elusive for another week….despite all Elaine Swanepoel’s attempts at trying to “feel” for the warm card…and really using some weird strategy to fathom out where the joker was….all she succeeded in doing was to find the five of diamonds…and that means that there are now only 5 cards left…and one of those is the “Scarlet Pimpernel” Joker….if your name is called you have a 20% chance of winning R332 257, which is the new jackpot for this draw!!!
This week we have decided to host another night market as well, so there will be additional food available for all our Members and their guests. Marge and her staff will be open as normal, but with the additiona; crowds, we thought the kitchen would enjoy the assistance of some outsiders…and there will additionally be some craft stalls to browse through for anyone attending… Of course, all of our bars will be open….Main, Ladies and Scimitar…and we are going to have two satellite Beer only bars….one in the Hall, the other in the Beer Garden (weather permitting of course) and if I am able to convince the Gin and Vodka boys to return, we will have that also in operation to relieve some pressure off our traditional watering holes….So bring your R5 and your New Year could have the best start ever….
I am quite confident in saying that we are going to have a cracker-jack of an opening to the New Year at the North!!
That is it from me for the opening letter of the new year, sweet and short to begin….all of our Club plans and ideas have been doing pretty well up to now, so I think this year is going to be spectacular….have a blast everybody!!
Cheers
Rod
