The Scimitar 7 Nov 2017
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Hello there everyone!!
A sunny Tuesday has welcomed me to the North this morning…and I have been pacing up and down like an expectant father awaiting the arrival of his newborn…well…similar, but not quite as emotional…but I have been fervently awaiting the arrival of our new addition to the North…another Toro Reelmaster ride-on mower…that will enable us to improve our capacity and efficiency on mowing of our playing facilities here…I looked over the grounds with a sense of pride on the weekend and can quite honestly say that I have never seen the grounds looking as good as the currently are….a huge thanks and well done to Brian and Victor for the time and dedication they offer, week after week to firstly getting our fields into this impeccable condition…and secondly for being able to put a magicians touch in to effect the major improvement in our fields over the last 10 months…hopefully the new mower will assist in this task in the future….my gracious thanks to Andy and Anthony for all the efforts in getting us our new addition to its new home…
I have seen that our summer footballers are gaining some momentum…with both of our second sides remaining unbeaten at present…well done to them both…and this Thursday we have the derby of all derbies…the Ladies ‘A’ and ‘B’ sides meet…should be a crackerjack of a game, with both sides wanting to prove their worth…be there to experience this massive clash!!
For all the followers of the Joker draw…you can all breath a little easier…the card that was drawn was the two of spades… with Graham Havenga showing us where it has been hiding….we have seen quite an increase in the numbers of people joining us for the Joker draw…and as a consequence the jackpot has increased by over R11 000 this week…we now boast a jackpot of R211114…..which is reason enough on its own to join us this Friday at the North…and with the Members jackpot up for grabs at R5200, it means you should arrive a little earlier, as that draw is at 19h00….but the earlier you arrive, the easier it is to find parking…I see that our parking lots are really becoming busy…so make a really good time of it and arrive early, get a great parking spot…possibly have a late lunch of Marge’s super special of steak, egg and chips for only R70…enjoy a beer or two whilst watching our junior cricketers practicing their skills…buy a few tickets for the joker draw…be entertained by some old favourites, the Zimmer Twinz…and then be here for the Members draws at 19h00 and the joker draw at 19h30… followed hopefully a celebration, with you as the new joker jackpot winner!!
I am sure that the athletic members who usually frequent the joker draw, are really happy to hear that the draw wasn’t won…as a large contingent of them were down in the Lowveld last weekend to compete in the Kaapsehoop marathon….I saw that there were a few “first-timers” and quite a number of “personal best” times achieved over the race…fantastic jobs and well done to everyone who can now tick off the first box of their goal to compete (and complete) Comrades Marathon 2018….the photos from this weekend away, looked like it was a most enjoyable time….and great to see the numbers of Northerns vests participating in the race….
Our Cricketers had a very successful weekend on the local pitches, with only one of their sides registering a loss….well done boys…..the impressive Premier side had a landslide 181 run win over Actonville Spurs…a super win for the Benoni derby…excellent result and well done chaps…let us keep that momentum going…
This weekend we have our prestigious “Sports Person of the Year” Awards…all the best to all the nominees…I am sure that the Award winner will continue the past history as being an exceptional Sports Person, who will again hold the name of the North high….it is going to be great to see all the boys and girls from the North all dressed in their number 1’s….
Please also diarise that the ToyRun 2107 is being held at our grounds on November 26th…this is always a fantastic day…with thousands of bikers descending on the Club…to drop off toys for the under privileged…and this year promises to be another memorable event, with a great atmosphere and some excellent live music…please remember all the road closures that will affect the flow of traffic in and around the North and of certain main arterial routes in and out of Benoni for a majority of the morning….the Club will still be open, but with only the Scimitar bar open during the day, as all the other staff will be utilised in manning the fridges, issues and general duties at the ToyRun bar…
And the weekend after that, the inaugural East Rand Show will be held on our grounds too…with all sorts of exhibitors and stalls available…there will be a massive children’s park and play area…with a main arena featuring headline acts, military displays and similar attractions…there will also be a large aeronautical area, with helicopter flips….
That’s it for this week, hope to see you all soon…take care…
Cheers
Rod
