The Scimitar 5 Dec 2018
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Hi there to everyone….
With our little heat wave that we are going through…it has been a time for cool refreshments, shade, swimming pools and shade…Andy Dudley has taken on the task of creating some shade….and has rigged up some additional shade for the beer garden for the hot months….it looks like a great initiative and will work a treat Andy…thank you….we will also be having a jumping castle in the beer garden for the entire summer break…and we plan to have a trial run this weekend to see how it goes….so please get the kids to come along to test it to see if will be a hit for the summer break….
The Christmas period is my favourite time of the year…and it is fast approaching…everyone appears more positive and happy at the prospect of vacations and spending quality time with family and loved ones….I trust that you all are in a positive frame of mind for the coming festive season….there are Christmas Carols blaring out in all the shopping malls (please no Boney M classics) there are new goodies on show, gadgets for the guys (young and old) trinkets and bling for the girls…everyone is stock piling food to feast on..drinks to improve the merry making…the wrapping of presents to then frantically hiding them from the kids and loved ones…it really is a satisfying time of the year….everyone seems a lot more relaxed…it is the season of giving and people are in that mood…wouldn’t it be lovely if everyone could carry on with that attitude throughout the year….to try to maintain the feeling of goodwill, our Scimitar bar will be open for the entire festive season for our Members and guests…so feel free to pop in and join us…bring the kids…the jumping castle will be up and can hopefully keep them occupied for a while too….
Our Fridays have been a little quiet…I think everyone is awaiting that the Joker Jackpot gets up into the 6 figure numbers….well we are almost there….after last week, we had a new name in the joker cabinet….Brent’s son Kelvin, who is up from PE to see his dad was the name to be drawn from the beeeeg black box….unfortunately for him, his luck at being drawn, did not continue onto the selection of the card to reveal the Joker…..and was only able to reveal the King of hearts….and this means that we edge ever closer to the 6 figures…and now sit at R97527….with no winners on either of the Members draws, means that as a member you have a chance to win almost R100000 in prizes this week….so come through…bring the children to have a jump on the castle….and listen to the sweet sounds of Freedom Unfound to sing along to….and let that end of the year feeling wrap you up too and transport you into a relaxed start of the weekend and the festive season….
The only premier side playing this weekend were the cricketers who travelled to Boksburg….and came to earth with a horrible bump….losing by 3 runs on the dreaded Duckworth Lewis method in a rain shortened fixture….we won the toss and sent the opposition in to bat…and after taking wickets at regular intervals….had them all out for 160…with Kundai bagging 4/38 and Leonard Killeen grabbing 3/15 and a run out in his 10 overs providing the bulk of the wickets….with rain affecting play, we had an adjusted total of 158 to get…..but it proved to be a task too large for us on the day…and we were bundled out for 154 and lost by 3 runs…. the only fellows to provide any resistance were Kurt (40 off 53) and WP (35 off 73)…whilst the rest really folded on the day…a real disappointing result, but we are still top of the league, by 6 points and still 3 games to go to completion of the first round….we can only hope that the new year will keep the momentum going that we enjoyed before this match…. enjoy your festive break boys…..and then come back in the new year refreshed and ready to go in the new year again….the cricket boys will start the year again with their annual six-a-side tournament on the first weekend of the new Year….
Next week sees the annual Athletics pub run….that will be run/walked on Wednesday the 12th at the Benoni Country Club…. walkers will begin at 17h30 with the runners putting their best foot forward 15 minutes later…. this is always a great evening of joyous frivolity…. come along to experience it with us if you haven’t done it before…..
The Vets and Ladies soccer are also going to be taking their festive break….they have had a new home for this first half of the season…playing all their matches on the top hockey field (thanks to Eastern Gauteng for the use of their field, while we perform some well earned R&R on the Soccer C field that endures an absolute pounding with the number of feet crossing it during the course of the year)…I have heard that despite the field being a little small….report backs are all positive on the quality of surface and the general lighting…all the sides are in the upper half of their respective leagues at the moment…so keep that up in the new year…I hope that you all have a really good break and come back revitalised…
Thanks to the Council for upgrading all our flood lights with LED’s…I am sure that this will have a positive effect on out monthly electricity running expenses of all the sub sections and Main Club….
If you have any complaints or compliments, please send them to rod.scheepers@gmail.com
Cheers till next week
