Hi there all

Some fresh crisp mornings awaited us over the weekend, but turned into stunning winters days…and with lots of sunshine, there were reasons aplenty to consume some beer in the Scimitar and beer garden…plenty of local and international sport…the Comrades Aches and Pains party…and some brilliant music on Friday, meant that the Club was back to being a busy hot spot on the weekend.

Hockey was back in full force at the North…with the girls on Saturday afternoon and the guys on Sunday morning. Our first Men’s hockey side unfortunately came out on the wrong side of a 7 goal thriller against CBCOB…but it was great to see both sides enjoying some refreshments after the game in the beer garden…there were also some grudge matches completed, with the Mom’s in the FTC’s challenging their offspring and their friends in the Yaya’s…with the experience finally gaining the upper hand and the FTC’s walking away with the bragging rights. I have been watching our hockey progress over the last two years…and the introduction of the Astro’s has meant the standards have steadily improved and there are some really interesting, innovative and competitive matches on display every week. If you follow the sport, please come through and watch…I’m sure you will enjoy what our local athletes have to offer.

Our soccer boys have continued their winning ways and dispatched Zwide 4-1 and have jumped up to second place in the league, albeit that we have played one more game than most….a most creditable position to be….The reserves are also in second place…well done to Fish and his charges… They are both playing at home this weekend against Kempton, so please come and support. There is a full house of soccer this weekend at the North, with both fields having 2 games scheduled for Saturday afternoon…it promises to be an action packed day.

Our runners had their Comrades aches and pains party…and what a bash it turned out to be…there were plenty of athletes honored on their sterling performances on the day….I saw plenty of smiling faces…and there was reason for lots of celebration…which our members did in style….all the bars pumped after the conclusion of the formalities…with the Scimitar playing host to the serious party people, with lots of dancing, singing and making merry…I am sure that there were a some body parts a little the worse for wear on Saturday morning….Thanks to everyone for a fantastic evening…

This weekend is again the last Friday, so we have the Night Market…hopefully the weather will play along…we will have a varied offering of food stalls and some crafts on display too….Boycott Ballad will be playing…they have been well received in the past and offer a really distinct style of music that lends itself to the laid back feeling at a market.. Join us from 17h00…we will get some fire bowls in the beer garden to add to the atmosphere of the new lights on the barrier fence…

And just in case you had forgotten!! Our Joker draw was not won last week…so another roll over… and we have hit the magical six figure Jackpot!! R100 071!! Is the new amount up for grabs this week…and all for just R5! The members draw was also not won, so this has crept up to R1 200…both of the draws will be held on Friday…the Members at 19h00 with the Joker draw a half an hour later.

Saturday sees the Hockey offering a fund raiser called the Beer Mile….and it is quite simple…drink a beer…run 400 metres on the first lap….and repeat 4 times!! The response has been really good, but there is still time to contact Chris Tucker or Mike Veliotes for tickets…..they will be in the Scimitar bar on Friday for off line ticket sales…or you can find the link on The Beer Mile Facebook page or on our Benoni Northerns Facebook page too. We will also be promoting our Scimitar Lager and Eish Tea products…with some Beer Pong taking place in the Main Hall, so come and try your hand at Beer Pong if you haven’t tried it before…Both of these events will be starting at 11h00 on Saturday morning…

So there are no excuses to miss out on Saturday, Junior Soccer and Hockey, the Beer Mile, some Beer Pong, top notch Soccer and Ladies Hockey…a varied menu to satisfy all sports enthusiasts…..

There will be a full set of fixtures on the Hockey Astro on Saturday (Ladies) and Sunday (Mens) with some excellent hockey expected….either the Astro at Northerns or the one at St Dunstans can expect some interesting clashes….

Our rugby boys are all playing away this weekend…we wish you well on the second half of the season….bring us back some happy news this week….

East Rand hockey derby set to delight:

Last Game Match Results: 2nd Team drew 5-5 with MCC D. Kyle Pape, Jonothan Abate, Douglas Mortan, Donovan Miller, Peter Tucker all scoring a goal.

1st lost their 300th SGHA game against CBC, 3-4. It was a tight tussle and entertaining game for the spectators. Dale Griffiths, David Fink and Michael Faulds scoring goals.
