BNSC NEWSLETTER
An extra special good morning to each and all
With us having made it past the Winter Solstice, means we have gone through and over the hump of the longest night in the Southern Hemisphere….and that as we welcome the new dawn, we will get flooded with just over a minute of extra sunlight each day for the next six months…so that means almost an extra 3 and a half hours of additional sunshine by the middle of December (whoop-whoop!!)….that is quite incredible…. hopefully each and every one of us is going to put that additional Vitamin D time to good use!! I have taken to walking early in the morning…so I will be able to see the sun rising in the not too distant future…yippee….
I’ll go straight into the report back on our last Friday night’s activities…it still appears that our Club Members do not venture their noses outside if there is not a specific party planned at the Club and the weather is a little fresh and there happens to be a breeze of more than 2k’s per hour!! J…that said…we had a super Friday night with Ryno and Freedom Unfound as our band for the evening…they played lots of old favourites and some new stuff too, that had many feet tapping and Members singing loudly in unison…Earlier in the evening Dudley Hickman….known to many as “Uku”….had his name extracted from the “beeeg” black box….and his system of selecting the winner proved to be as effective as most of our guesses…and revealed the seven of diamonds…so we have another roll-over for this week…and the Jackpot has moved up to R54 722….while this week we have a crackerjack of a Friday planned for all our Members and their guests… with the Members draw also having a carry over… we’re up to R5800 on that one this week….and the Joker draw still up for grabs again…we also offer our monthly fare of the Legends night market….which, as usual, will display quite an array of goodies for sale or to scrumptious alternatives to eat…and we host Omega (the very popular 5 piece band), who are back to entertain us…. and for all of our winners who ran the Comrades a short while ago….we will be hosting the annual “Aches and Pains” party in the Hall…. so this Friday we are literally going to cook at the North…make sure that you are here to join in on the festivities….
With the rich history that our Club is creating….I am wanting to start a new “feature” in the Scimitar… something to showcase our past achievements and to prod some of the older Members memory banks with names and faces they have not seen in many a year…I haven’t settled on a name yet…but some of the proposals are “Call back the past” “Down Memory Lane” “Do you remember” and “Back in my day!!”….if you have anything that you believe will be noteworthy and of interest… if you could please forward it to my email address listed below, I would be most appreciative… the frequency of this new column would, of course, depend on the amount of newsworthy material that we would receive…so please go and scratch in your particular archives, albums and files…and let us see what we are able to unearth!!
Onto our weekend sport…rugby had a bye, so nothing to report on their progress and with the general bye this weekend for the USSA week, we have another week for preparation for our home weekend on the 7th…when everyone descends on the North for centralised fixtures…. So good luck with the all the training and tactics lads….
Our Baseballers had an epic weekend, with the Major ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams registering successes against Boksburg and the Midgets respectively…the Minors and Reserves completing a full house of wins for the Club over the weekend…Brilliant results fellows…keep that up…
After the Second Soccer side maintained their winning ways with a 6-1 drubbing of Sporting at home on Saturday…much was expected from the first side….but another disappointing result saw them going down 2-1 in an ill-tempered affair….I must say that I didn’t watch the whole game…but we were all over the opposition in the last 15 minutes, but just couldn’t get the ball into the net….Coach Jannie was able to “blood” a few youngsters in this game, which will stand them in good stead for the future…this weekend we take on Zwide at home…and need to reverse our earlier result of the season against them…so let us get behind the boys and offer them our support to make some positive strides starting with this match….
That is all from me for another week….please remember to send me any compliments or complaints to rod.scheepers@gmail.com …also if you may have any precious jewels of information or photos wrapped and dripping in history and memories from the past….please send them too (include a bit of a story about it…) you will be given the necessary credit for any contributions…
If I don’t see you through the week…I’ll see you through the “window”….
Cheers Rod
