The Scimitar 20 Mar 2018
BNSC NEWSLETTER
A top o’ the mornin’ to ya all
With the hype of St Patricks day and the Irish winning the six nations rugby against England (who last year I thought were invincible), the weekend of March 17, was a true celebration of Green….and to start the weekend off, we had a super evening on of Irish celebration on Friday with a really great 5 piece band, Omega, who kept many feet tapping…they were all set up to play to the new terrace…but the weather intervened and hasty arrangements were made to bring the party into the ladies bar….despite that most of us saw the reverse side of the band for some of the evening….there were vodka infused jello shots in the colours of the Irish national flag and plenty of Guinness consumed on the evening to keep the Irish spirit festive and to the fore…this was all after the joker and members draws produced no winners…Patricia Tolda was called…and she perused over the board before making her selection that turned out to be the eight of spades….Ted Jarvis has claimed sole right and responsibility for the increased Joker draw sales on the night from his superlative and slick selling skills… this has now laid down the gauntlet to the rest of the Main Club committee, with Adele and Emma taking it to heart and are going to do their best to dash Ted’s theory….there is some merit to Ted’s claim and the Joker Jackpot has now climbed to R67 565!! Every week that passes without a winner, will have one card less and that means the odds improve on someone finding the Joker in the following week….
Our Soccer boys were not as happy and successful in their foray in the Super League, coming home from a 3-1 loss to Zwide…judging from the players responses, they were really disappointed at the loss and have vowed that they will avenge this loss with a steely performance against Kempton Park away this week…boys all the best, give of your best and bring home the three points for us to celebrate…..
The cricketers are still on their “high”….and after defeating Bedfordview, still top the standings in the league table…there are still two matches left in the season, but with arch rivals Kempton breathing down their necks in second place…there is no time for complacency or relaxation…we need to win both of the games left to ensure that we end up as league champions (the position we definitely deserve!!) We travel to Boksburg to take on CBCOB in our second last encounter of the year tomorrow (Wednesday – the public holiday)…and then Sunday is the final match of the year..against our arch rivals Kempton Park!!…this will be another cracker and with the result as a winner takes all, it should be a cracker….the match is to be played at the North, so please come down to support….it will be wonderful to have a full house of frenzied spectators in their last encounter of the season….good luck boys, give of your best…we cannot ask for anything more….make us proud…
This week is the finals of the baseball season, both Junior and Senior, disappointingly being played in Boksburg…please pop along to support our boys, also on Sunday, I am sure that they will be most appreciative……best of luck to all the finalists, do your best guys…it was the Junior prize giving last week with all the performers of the season being celebrated…congratulations to all the prize winners…and to all those that didn’t receive prizes, .thank you for your efforts over the season they are also greatly appreciated…there is always next year….Senior prize giving is set for this Friday, so I am sure that there be a fair amount of achievements being celebrated on the night…
Our athletes are also all hard at work…with some completing the “om die dam” last weekend, which I am told is a really tough ultra…well done to all those who finished this gruelling race….and now with a little more than 80 days to go….time is getting “min”….may you all be fleet of foot in your training…
Our rugby and hockey players are also hard at work…I see a lot of time, sweat and heavy breathing (no Simon! not that sort!) being put into their pre-season training…may all your efforts be rewarded in the ensuing season….
I am fortunate enough to be able to spend a few days off…away from the hustle and bustle of the city…my gorgeous wife was able to organise us a mid week break…we truly live in a magnificent part of the globe…last night I was able to see the different hues of the sky as the sun set over the dark silhouette of the beautifully rounded koppies in the area..watching the magnificence of the heavens, absolutely afire with gazillions of stars, which we normally are unable to see at home….during our slumber hours, we were aware of all sorts of snorts, grunts and groans of the wild life moving around our chalet…whilst this morning I awoke to three Leorie’s that were sitting on the chairs around our braai, looking for any available scraps we may have left behind……just the sort of break I needed to recharge the batteries to see us through our busy season…
I wish you all a wonderful sporting week…if you have any suggestions, moans or groans about the Club (or anything in general), please feel free send them onto my email rod.scheepers@gmail.com.
I won’t see you through the week…but I may see you through the window…..
Cheers Rod
