A fresh and chilly good morning to everybody

Winter has started to throttle out autumn and her icy fingers have been noticed in the last few days. With the long weekend, we were a lot quieter at the North, with most sports having a well earned rest…but the Soccer boys kept the flag flying high, with satisfying wins for the Seniors and Colts first sides, while both of their respective second teams drew their encounters.

Rugby will be having another weeks rest, as it is their chance to have a bye whilst all the hockey is back in full swing, with Ladies fixtures filling up the Astro on Saturday afternoon and the Men the participating on Sunday morning again. Our First Men’s hockey side are playing a Derby against CBCOB Boksburg at St Dunstans Astro at 09h45 on Sunday morning… please get down there to watch our boys turn on the magic. It is a landmark as the Northerns are participating in their 300^th game in the Southern Gauteng league…all the best to our fellows…come home with a win under your belts…

With last weekend having a Public holiday on Friday, we had our member’s draws on Thursday evening and we finally had winners in both of the Members categories, with Andrew Dudley winning the two cases of beer and Mark Robey walking away with a wallet that was filled with an extra R7 400!! Well done to the two of you, I know that Mark enjoyed his early Christmas present and I’m certain that that Andy will not allow any dust to settle on his beer prize…

The Joker draw had another carry over, so this week we have edged a little closer to the magical R100 000 level and the Jackpot this week is up at R95 733…so for just a R5 wager, you could be the next winner of this healthy bonus. Last ticket sales are at about 19h15 on Friday night (this week in the Ladies Bar, as there is a function in the Main Hall). Pop along and try your luck…you never know, you may be our next lucky winner.

We had a Karaoke on Thursday evening…and what fun it was…we unearthed a bucket of fine new talent…some of which were too apprehensive to use a microphone, but there was plenty of sing along happening and some smooth and slick dance moves were also shown. Thanks to everyone who made the evening a great success….we will be having more of these in the future.

Saturday saw the Soccer boys showing their talents to our crowds….and what a show they put on…after a shaky start and finding themselves 2-1 down in the second half… the boys kicked up a gear to slap in four unanswered goals to walk away with the laurels, 5-2. Well done, Robertsham is never an easy encounter and to show the finishing skills as you did, was appreciated by the crowd. I enjoyed the way that the crowd interacted with the players….which encouraged our boys to greater heights…thanks to all those who came out to support our boys and in some cases irritate the opposition. Our Colts also performed admirably on Sunday, with a 3-1 win over the Titans…these young men are acquitting themselves brilliantly to the task at hand and are currently on top of their log…still being unbeaten in the current season… Soccer are playing at home this weekend against Zwide…let us have some great support for them again.

Our athletes have had some time off after the Comrades…but are slowly making their presence felt back at the Club…this morning at 05h00 I heard the runners chatting and laughing as they ran past our house….and I realised that I had missed their banter over the last two weeks…good luck with your time back on the road….I wish you many happy kilometres in training towards your goals. The Athletic Club will be having their Comrades aches and pains party this Friday at the North…I’m sure it is going to be a helluva night…we had 119 finishers, who will be celebrating their success of completion in style….

Dream Catcher are bringing their full band this Friday, so I am looking forward to a great all round party to start the weekend…in the past they always create a great vibe…lots of sing along and dancing….

Good luck to all on their various exploits on the sporting fields over the weekend….may you experience success and great enjoyment.

Just a reminder for next weekend…we have our night market on Friday evening and the Hockey fund raiser on Saturday being the Beer Mile, which should to be barrels of fun.
