BNSC NEWS
Hi there from the Office
Hmmmm, I think that winter has decided to extend its icy tentacles over summer and is taking control of our weather patterns. It is a little fresher each day and the sun is hiding away over the horizon a little later each day. We were a little more laid back this relaxing long weekend….I’m sure some of our members were well travelled, we had a good representation at the Two Oceans Marathon, whilst I saw a lot of our runners on the road getting mileage in preparation for the Comrades. The hockey Astro was a hive of school hockey…I was privileged to witness some of the skills on show…some breathtaking moments interspaced by a few schoolboy errors, but lovely to be able to watch schools from all over the country and some beyond our borders. Our soccer boys had another disappointing result against Robertsham away, but will be back at our enclave next week to show us exactly what they are made of again….in a Thursday and Saturday home fixture. The rain last week hampered the cricket progress in their preparations of their “A” pitch…but this week has got them back on track.
If you at the Club on Thursday night, we had a very successful Karaoke night. It was really special, listening to all the talent on show. Well done to all those who arrived and participated. Thanks for the support, we will most certainly make this as a more regular feature on our calendar.
This weekend is our Athletics sections big one! The Robor Scaffolding Marathon takes place on Sunday April 23…and it promises to be another cracker! Northerns will be a packed with people from Thursday onwards…with picket fences and gazebos and scaffolding being erected, additional ablutions provided, issuing of race numbers and marshalling … A massive entry is anticipated, so expect quite a number of detours and deviations in and around the Club over the weekend to accommodate all these runners. Good luck to all the participants, but more so to our athletes, who will be giving up their time and weekend to ensure that the race a well run and organised machine. All the best to Jan and his capable team.
Our First Soccer side is playing away this weekend, whilst Senior Hockey is only planned to officially begin over the first weekend in May. Junior Soccer is back in full swing again as the holidays are now over and a full complement is expected on the Junior Hockey fields too. The Winter cricket league is also beginning soon, so our fields will soon be abuzz with the sounds of youngsters, screams of delight associated with their laughter which is so infectious. I’m sure their parents will also be there supporting….please as parents we need to be cognisant that without a Coach our kids would not be playing…so take it easy on these marvellous individuals, who give up so much of their personal time and energy to ensure that we have a team, complete with plans and aspirations of victory in each game.
Baseball Majors are also now on our doorstep, so we look forward to another season of successes on the diamonds.
The new sub-section Rugby are almost ready to begin their season, so soon our weekends are going to be filled with all the sport being played….Saturdays from now on are really going to be particularly busy, with the juniors from all winter sports playing or practicing, while all the Winter sport disciplines will have their seniors battling it out in the afternoons……Sundays will have Senior Hockey and also Colts Soccer, which makes a welcome return to the North this year. It is extremely encouraging to see that this bridging team is back at Northerns after quite a few years break. It is hats off the Rodney Farrell and his Junior coaches and their planning that we are able to field a competitive Colts team again.
Our point of sale system is installed and now operating…which despite some teething problems, appears to be working very smoothly. I, for one, am really happy that the staff have put in some real effort to ensuring a smooth transition. Resistance to change is always a stumbling block in the efficient implementation of a new system and the staff have welcomed the new addition…members should be seeing the some positive spin-offs already. As we roll on into the future, we will be able to implement some really neat positive features for our members, which I am really looking forward to.
The borehole on the Southern side is complete and ready for commissioning and we should be able to begin our fertilisation and watering programme within the next week. The grounds are still looking great, but with this added feature, the playing surfaces will again be taken up a notch or two.
That’s it from me…hope you all have a great sporting week… if you have any suggestions, quirks or qualms, please let me know on my personal email rod.karoe@gmail.com
