BNSC NEWSLETTER
A very good morning to all….
Another crazy week has passed for us all….and I was fortunate to have a couple of days to spend in the serenity of a little known jewel in the heart of Northern Natal….just the tonic to recharge the batteries….no TV, below average cell phone coverage and selected radio stations which did not cover any of the sport I was interested in….I have heard that we had an lovely weekend at the North….trials…some wins….some losses…prize giving…great entertainment….a sad wake, to realise how precious life really is….and another Joker draw roll over….
Friday was an extremely busy day as we started the day bidding a sad farewell to the Bobster, who touched the multitudes of youngster and parents alike at the North….cheerio Bobby, you will be sadly missed….condolences to all his family and loved ones….Friday saw the return of Omega…the ever popular 5 piece band that always sets feet a-tapping and hands clapping…and they did not disappoint….hit after hit was played with people dancing and singing along…this week we welcome back Adam from Boycott Ballad…who adds his own charms and distinctive touch to every single song he performs….please be sure to pop down early to savour and enjoy this rare talent….
Our Joker draw is starting to climb and it is beginning to attract larger crowds again as the lure of “big money” brings the crowd in again….and Friday night was no exception….with over R140 thousand rand up for grabs…the ticket sales deck was a real hive of frenzied activity….and as 19h30 approached…the crowd moved through into the main bar for the big moment….Lockey’s hand went into the beeeeeeg black box and drew out a new name….Richard MacKinnon…and as a “first timer” asked some questions…but was most composed in his selection and confidently pointed to the face down card that was exposed as the three of spades…..so another week with no winner!!….15 cards left and the “pot” climbs to R146243…..getting up to a really significant amount now….so please be sure to try your luck this week….for only R5 you could be our next big winner!!….ticket sales start at about 17h00 in the Hall and close off at 19h20….with the draw taking place at 19h30 in the Main Bar….
Saturday saw the Junior cricket prize giving….with all the splendid achievements of these young men….being applauded and cheered on my fellow players and parents alike…the conclusion to another fantastic season….accolades not just to all these wonderful, skilful and talented cricketers who don our beloved red and black cap with honor and distinction each weekend….these are the future of our Club and by the sounds of it we are well placed to tackle these challenges… also, well done Jason and his team of enthusiastic committee members for making this season the success it has been….
Our rugby boys participated in the Nigel rugby day and had a lovely day with some great success and a close encounter loss….the seconds had a 24-17 loss to East Rand United in a hard fought encounter….while the first’s and under 21’s recorded really one-sided wins against Meyerton…75-5 and 55-0 respectively….albeit that we are have some great wins…I’m really not sure that it is teaching the coaching staff too much….but it is wonderful to have a positive beginning to the season….well done boys…keep it up….
The soccer boys took the trip “down the road” to take on our arch rivals Old Bens in the first Derby day clash of the 2019 season…..and the reserves had a positive result with a 3-3 draw…albeit that it was a bit disappointing to lose 3-1 lead to concede two late goals…almost an hour of the match was played with only ten men…as we had one of our players shown a red card for two bookable offences in the first half already…..special mention must be made of Kaylem Jordaan, who still represents the Colts and scored all three of our goals with a super hat-trick…the first time had a fantastic match….controlling all facets of the match and ending up deserved 4-1 winners…still early in the season, but already we are catch the glimpses of coach Jannie’s tactics and game plan showing their positive outcomes…this weekend is a most tough encounter….the first side being Super League champs last season…with their second team ending second to our own league champions….this promises to be a wonderful clash of two very balanced teams…. good luck boys….
Our cricketers made it another disappointing end to the season and lost convincingly to Actonville Spurs and after losing their final three games…had to give up their top spot to Alberton…and now await the call of the Administrators as to how the final playoff places will work….it is always a guessing game as each year the goal posts seem to move dependent on which side of the bed they get out of on decision morning….we eagerly await the decisions as Alberton top the standings, with ourselves in second spot…followed closely by Kempton (who also suffered a loss this weekend, to CBCOB, our old nemesis)…whichever way the matches turn out…I trust that our boys will return to their winning ways…and very soon too….
I saw our athletes out on the road early this morning…after their efforts in Edenvale over the weekend….quite a tough route from all report backs….with our own Bright Mikolongwe landing up on the podium….with a solid 3rd place in the half marathon in a time of 1 hour 13 minutes….well done Bright!! A great performance….
Baseball had an another busy weekend hosting a full tournament of matches…and again most positive reports back on the condition of the club…well done to all concerned (Shaun and his committee of never tiring volunteers…and to Brian and his team of workers) in ensuring that our playing facilities are kept in the best condition possible….
The new card system appears to be working well….with a couple of the expected hiccoughs….but the implementation appears to have been fairly smooth, well received and with many positive report backs….
As always I sign off with a request that you contact me if you have any complaints or suggestions….please email me on rod.scheepers@gmail.com with them…
Thanks and cheers
