The Scimitar 11 Jul 2017
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Morning everybody
It appears that there was a little “glitch” in the system last week and my summary, message, note or whatever we would like to call it, was not attached to the Scimitar. My apologies, we still do not know how it happened, but will endeavour to ensure that this does not reoccur. Just to summarise on last week, was that the North cooked of the first weekend of July….the Night Market and the evening with the Boycott Ballad playing the evening away outside, despite the nippy weather. The atmosphere continued on Saturday, with the Beer Mile being run. It was a fund raiser deluxe, with a great amount of Fun experienced by all. I’m sure that most people have seen the front page of the City Times where we had Barry emblazoned on the front page in all his pretty glory. I think that this picture epitomized the day….a lot of people took the opportunity to dress up and it was an absolute blast….definitely one we can repeat fairly often…thanks to Chris, Mike and their team…you did a great job…I know how much hard work goes into the smooth running of these events…and yours ran like clockwork…. and then for Sunday, It was going to be a difficult act to follow…but the Hockey and Junior Soccer boys acquitted themselves admirably in making sure the day was a success.
Onto this week…and we now have the sights, sounds and smells of a construction site. Our work on the additions has begun. And despite the noise and the dust, I think that everyone can see the progress and will admit the changes are already looking amazing. The plastering of the entrance passage has made everything lighter and brighter…and as each day goes past, I can see progress and can’t wait for it all to be finished. The veranda outside the hall and ladies bar is going to be a fantastic addition and I am convinced that this will be an excellent meet and greet area….Work has even commenced on the change rooms already and everything looks to be a little ahead of schedule… I really feel like telling the builders to “Hurry..hurry…I want to see the finished project… “
Last Friday was a little quieter than the previous week…possibly school holidays and all the sports tours that occur at this time of the year may have affected us….but the good news for those who weren’t able to attend…the Joker draw was not won…so there is another carry over!! Our jackpot this week sits at just short of R108 000….so come along on Friday…experience the vibe…come and look at the alterations if you haven’t already done so….and then more good news….the ever popular Dream Catcher are returning this week….I had a late cancellation, so Bonesy and Mike stepped up to the plate to assist us….they have proved a very popular set of Musos…..come and listen to their special brand of pop and rock…..
Saturday brought some really odd weather….it felt like we went through 4 seasons in a day…the day starting off warm…then cooler, some rain, warmer and then decidedly fresh weather set in… It didn’t hamper the spirits of our juniors, who spent the morning playing Soccer and practicing Hockey…Our senior soccer boys really enjoyed their Saturday…and proceeded with an 8-2 thrashing of Germiston at the North…and there was plenty of celebration into the night with their joyful result….
Sunday brought our centralised Men’s Hockey fixtures on the Astro and the Beer Garden was a blaze of colour, with all the sides returning to whet the whistles with a cold one or three after the matches….Sunday afternoon saw our Colts in action with both sides having positive results…well done to all….
Our July is a lot quieter than the last few months have been…I think we all need a little time to recover…the end of the month will see the start of a busy couple of weeks, with our Junior Hockey tournament (July 29th) and then just after the Women’s day public holiday (9th August)…the Masters coming rolling into the North…. This is going to be some serious few days….great hockey accompanied by the odd party of two…. For all our regular party goers, Brace yourselves…this will be THE party to be at and experienced…. Diarise it, tell your mates…whatever you do…DON’T miss it…..
Short and sweet this week…good luck to everyone playing some sport this weekend…
