Bridge Results 8 Dec 2016 (amended)
There were eight and a half tables today, and a good time was had by most of us who played today. There were some really funny moments, but don’t worry, Ian and I are tight lipped and won’t say a word. (hysterically funny……!).
Very well done to the new partnership of Anne and Annette, who won by more than 5%, followed by Paul and Bridie in second and Hans and Albert in third.
Please note my comments from Tuesday, where I advised you all about next week, the last for us, with the club closing down on Friday the 16th and re-opening on Tuesday 3rd January. I also asked for someone in each partnership to bring a plate of eats on Tuesday and Thursday.
Now for something that I mentioned today, namely whether we should be playing on Tuesday evenings next year or Tuesday afternoons. We have recently had occasions where the turnout was really bad, take for instance what happened on Tuesday, where we only had two tables. The reason for this is difficult to pin down, but we really need to know what your feelings are in this regard.
Firstly, I need to know how many pairs are going to play on Tuesday the 13th next. Please send a confirmation to me at royhayward654@gmail.com.
Secondly, the committee needs an urgent feedback from every member regarding Tuesdays next year, starting from, say, February 2017. We have had requests to consider this, so we are now asking for a vote, either way. Please also reply direct to me at the above address.
Please treat this request as urgent, as we are really concerned about making the correct decision for our club, We also need to make suitable arrangements with the club management should the decision go the way of afternoon bridge, as they also have to plan ahead in order to accommodate our wishes.
That’s it for now.
Please send your feedback to me asap.
Roy
PS There aren’t any hand records today because the hands were dealt by yourselves, so the Dealmaster program doesn’t have a file.
Yesterday’s results were incomplete!
There I was last night, at about 11 o’clock, doing my little thing, wrestling with the intricacies of the Scorebridge program, beads of sweat running down my furrowed brow, wanting to ensure that you, my fellow members would be receiving your results on time, ensuring also that everything was correct. I even had time to talk to you about next year and Tuesday evenings, etc, etc.
And then. Cathy, only Cathy, out of all of us, noticed that there were four missing hands on their matrix, when it should only have been two, because of their sit-out round. Lisa called me, and when I looked at the matrix, I realised that the program must have failed to record the one round because of the power cuts during the play yesterday. It’s the only explanation, because the program showed that all hands had been played.
Here’s where it gets down and dirty! I jumped into my car, went down to the club, spoke to some of the cleaners, found out where they threw yesterday’s rubbish and grovelled around in several garbage bags before recovering 22 of the 24 travellers. I was able to then record the scores that were missing, which represented one round. The two missing travellers, numbers 15 and 16, didn’t affect the results, because their inputs were all recorded.
The results are attached, with some changes therefore in the top 6 places. Anne and Annette are still first, but Hans and Albert are now second.
Thanks Cathy.
I think I’ll go and have a much-needed shower now, because Troy keeps sniffing around me and staying close in case he can be included in any more of these adventures that his daddy get’s involved in.
Have a great weekend and keep those replies coming in about Tuesdays.
Roy the garbageman.
