Bridge Results 7 Jun 2018
What a beautiful morning, from my lounge window, as I look out at what could have been another cold and miserable winter day. Its great to just sit here and consider all the things we have going for us, those of us who are pensioners(which is almost everybody), with few thoughts about anything else except the good and the bad from yesterday. You know what I mean, “If only I’d bid 4 Spades, if I had just done this or that or kicked him under the table, or if I had simply finessed the …. Jack!”. Seldom do we say ” Its a good thing that she lead the Queen! I’m the only one to make 5, a top!”
There we go! At least I know you are all on the same page as me right now! Put it behind you, next time you’ll finesse the Jack and it will still be wrong. So what, the ….Jack is in the same place for everybody. Don’t you know you must just see which direction the King is looking to know where the Queen is? What’s that? Did nobody ever tell you that? Shame!
Now for yesterday. That excellent pair of Margaret and Anne did it again, with Lisa and Mary hot on their heels, followed by Chic and Evelyn a close third.
If you look at the results from yesterday, it’s rewarding to see the emergence of some pairs who have not always achieved what they are capable of. I’m really pleased to play against some of these pairs and note the competitive edge they’re displaying, all of a sudden!
You all know how I feel about the growth of our club, the new members, the emergence of better players. I just love to see this, its the payback for all the cajoling and the rise of such players gives all of us better competition and a concomitant rise in the levels of bridge we’re playing.
That’s all for this Friday morning. Enjoy the weekend and get back on Tuesday and Thursday for more of the same.
“There was an old girl from Benoni, who decided to ………”
I’m still working on it, give me a few days.
