On such a day, with 24 hours of rain, we didn’t expect a good turnout tonight, but the hardy folk of Benoni Northerns Bridge Club turned up in numbers enough to fill six tables.

The hands seemed to be pretty innocuous at first sight, but the bridge gremlins were lurking. As usual! But congratulations to Bernie for the only player to bid a grand slam in NT tonight, and to the winners, Margaret and Anne. Di and Barbara were second, with Vaun and Guylaine third.

It’s time for a nice hot shower now, and Troy wants to sleep outside and tomorrow’s Wednesday and all’s well with our club. I’m looking forward to a really good turnout on Thursday, our second last Thursday of the year.

Remember that next week will be the last bridge week of the year for us and we’ll be having some snacks, which you or your partner will be bringing, both on Tuesday and Thursday. Thursday will also be the day that we award our prizewinners for the year. The proceeds of everything we take in playing fees will be given to Benoni Northerns staff next week, but we also urge you to give them a little extra as well and we’ll be passing the little Christmas box around for you to donate something.

It has been a successful year for us, with significant growth. For us, in the committee, it’s been such a pleasure to interact with all of you and to see new faces. Next year will be even better. We’re going to grow some more and we are busy with the purchase of additional bridgemates and new bidding card sets.
