Before I start with last night, let me just congratulate our team of Paul, Bridie, Bill and Clyde, who competed in the Interclub Teams last week and finished in 13th position overall. It was an exhausting 4 days of competition, playing against some of the best players in South Africa, including members of the team who played in the Bermuda Bowl in France recently. Well done team, we have heard how tough it was and we’re proud of the fact that our club was represented and that we had some good wins over some highly rated teams.

And now to last night. Diana and Ann did it with 68,06%, followed by Paul and Bridie and then Shafik and Mahomed in third. A big feature of last night was the “availability” of 4 slams, some of which were obvious, some not so obvious!

I was sitting East and received the hand with 10 Spades, board number 2, seeing at least 11 tricks, no matter what! And Spades was definitely the suit, either 5 or six! It’s seldom indeed that opposition leads A of diamonds, then you claim the other 12 tricks! The most cards of any one suit that this humble scribe has ever received!

Troy is now sitting here looking at me, his body language clearly telling me that his walk is overdue, so I’m going to close off.

I forgot to mention, by the way, that last night was one of the biggest Tuesday attendances we’ve ever had. Seven, that’s right, you heard me, 7 tables. Soon we’ll be running two sections on Tuesdays.

Come, come, Hayward, you’re running off at the mouth again. Just finish off and let them peruse the results. (I love that word, the sound of it when it rolls off your tongue – ‘peroooze!’)
