Bridge Results 25 Jan 2018
What a good day it was today! We had our annual AGM, which went off without a hitch, thanks mainly to my competent committee and the behind the scenes assistance from the friendly staff of this, the greatest sports club which I have ever had the pleasure of belonging to. A great thank you to all you guys and girls.
The committee remains largely unchanged, except for Caroline Franks, who comes on board as Secretary in place of Deirdre, who is going to have her hands full at The Links in her new portfolio.
A huge measure of thanks to you Deirdre and we will, of course, still be seeing her when she finds time to visit and play some bridge. We wish her all of the best there in Johannesburg.
So, over to the events of today. There was a Bridgemate glitch, which was due to some faulty batteries, which were quickly changed. Because of that, I had to check all of the scores against what the travellers reflected and while most of the problems I found were limited to the 8 boards played at the table with the Bridgemate problem, I also found several wrong entries, where details were carelessly entered. In these cases, it was possible to figure out what actually took place, but in one case, despite Ian and myself trying our best, we had no alternative but to just give an average.
Sloppy, just going through the motions kind of thing. But there is always someone to sort it out, isn’t there!
OK, that’s just a gentle bleat from me. But please take the issue of entering the score correctly, both on the Bridgemate and the travellers, much more seriously.
A large well done to Di and Cathy, with Bill and Roz second and Ian and myself third. Somehow, we thought that today’s hands lent themselves to slightly more conservative play, with more part scores doing well, but just what we thought! Maybe you disagree with us, but that’s the beauty of the game, isn’t it? The variations in bidding, the competitiveness, the play, the defense, the strategy!
What a game!
What a great bunch of people you are!
Thanks to all of you,
Roy and the gang.
