It’s morning in Country View, freshly washed by yesterday’s rain and a gaggle of geese are waddling down the street, conversing with each other about whatever they converse about. All is well, the day is starting off with a fresh breeze, the leaves rustling gently and the light clouds hold promise of more rain to come. Troy is waiting patiently for his morning walkies, pacing silently up and down behind my chair, with the slight click of his nails a constant reminder of what he is waiting for.
Some of you know by now that I will not be a candidate for Chairman at Thursday’s AGM. I want to thank all of you that have followed my weekly letters from Country View and your kind comments about my ramblings. From Thursday I will revert to being an ordinary member, just playing ‘ The beautiful game’, as Ian put it to me a few days ago. It is indeed that, this game that we play every week, the passion of it, the never ending ups and downs, the vast variety of hands that amaze and confound us, the vagaries of distribution, surprises around every corner, of every suit, against every player. The thought that there are more possible hands than grains of sand on the beach!
Therefore, let me just thank all of you for your support over the past few years and I ask you to extend your support to the incoming Chairman(..person?), as you have to me.
Thanks for your kind donations to The Children of The Yemen charity. We were able to transfer R750 to them last night.
Here are the results of yesterday’s session, with Hans and Albert winning, followed by Ian and myself and Jerome and Priscilla an excellent third.
Thanks again from me, and Elaine and Troy.
