The evening started with a couple of prospective new members walking in, one of them still in Grade 11 at school!

Whew! As I said to the players that were there tonight, this will probably reduce the average age of our members by a good few years. Imagine that, we’re receiving interest from people who haven’t even started work yet! And, we’ve got some new members who are still working, with children still at school!!

I’m excited, and I hope you are too. Some of us older players(I’m trying to be polite, of course) will have to brush up on our systems that we’ve been playing for the past ……years and show them we can compete, even at our advanced ages!

Over to tonight now, and it was a triumph for Vaun and Guylaine, with Roz and Cathy second and Deirdre and Helen third. Then came the rest of us.

On a very interesting note for Ian and myself, we have this anomalous bid, in Precision, when partner opens one club(16 points) and you have a 4-4-4-1 shape and more than 8 points, which means you cannot bid a 4 card suit and neither a no-trump, so you have to bid a negative 1D, then jump in the singleton after partner bids. The point of the story is that we never seem to get these combinations, from year to year, but tonight we had two of them! The hands were really interesting and competitive.
