Bridge Results 2 Aug 2018
I suppose there were several funny and momentous moments this afternoon, but as you all know, I wasn’t there, well not until nearly the end, so I really cannot say much about the hands, the bad distribution that always went against you, nor the finesses that never worked etc, etc.
I couldn’t help noticing a few strange bids being made, however, as I wandered around, kibitzing, also some heart-stopping (gasp!) play of some hands, where contracts were made with multiple deviations from accepted bridge practise. And I thought, mistakenly, that I knew the game, knew how to make a contract, but what do I know, really? Seriously, folks, I’m not trying to be clever, but just being your guide through the labyrinth of bridge lore and tried and tested methods that are covered ad nauseum in books available in our library. In addition, I’m once again on my soapbox to try to get you to read about bridge on the Internet as well. There is so much available there, and if you’re not also playing on BBO, you should be!
And so to today’s results.
Ros and Sid had an excellent percentage of 76,6% to win by a large margin, so very well done you two. Second place went to Bram and Tico, while third was shared by Helen/Barbara, Jill/Vanessa and Paul/Hans.
Limerick time:
There was an old girl from Benoni,
Who from time to time bet on a pony,
But when she played bridge,
No gambling would nudge
Her to lie to her partner and crony.
Apologies to all for the dreadful attempt at Limerick writing.
You know that your partner is entitled to ask you ” Where is the hand you bid on” when your hand goes down in dummy, don’t you?
Enough, enough ! I’m now getting tedious, aren’t I?
Read, read, get onto some good websites about bridge, improve your bridge, and most importantly, enjoy the game and come back for more.
Love you all,
Roy
