Hello everyone. We had eight full tables today, with some amazing hands. Distribution was a huge factor, with several seven and eight card suits.

When you get strange distribution, there are occasions where bidding gets difficult,especially when pre-empt bids are made and you are the next player, not really knowing what to bid. The laws of bridge are sometimes a little complicated and also subject to interpretation and discussion. If you have a situation at your table where you might have made a bid and the first opposition player pauses a long time, without subsequently bidding, such a pause could be interpreted as the illegal passing of information to the partner. If the partner then bids and you feel you have been prejudiced as a result, you must feel free to call the Tournament Director for a ruling. The point of the above is that there are laws/rules that protect us all and you should never hesitate to call the TD.

Enough of the heavy stuff, Roy, so congratulations to Pat and Deirdre for an excellent win, with Di and Cathy a close second. And, there was a 50%! There’s at least R15.00 in the kitty, so to Jill and Vanessa, don’t spend it all at once. ( just kidding)
