Bridge Results 12 Sep 2017
It’s Wednesday morning in Rynfield, the sun is shining so brightly that you need shades just to get out of bed and yes, I’ve walked the dog. So, all is well here and I trust the same is true for all you bridge fanatics.
Before I start with the results, remember, remember, not the 5th of November, but the 14th October! What’s happening on that day? Where have you been?
It’s our club championship of course. I promised to nag those of you who haven’t entered yet, so here I am, in full nagging mode.
Enter, enter! It’s going to be the highlight of our bridge year, so do not miss it.
OK then, over to last night. How about board 5! You can make 7NT, 7H or 7D or 4S. But how to bid it? We must give kudos to our Dealmaster Program for producing some really interesting and varied hands the past few weeks.
So, now to last night. Helen and Deirdre did it with panache, winning by a clear 3 and a half percent, followed by Bridie and Paul, and Bram and myself one point behind. I don’t always show the places below 2nd, because in any case, you can see them for yourself. The point I want to make, however, is that we came third by one point and the difference was simply one extra trick given needlessly. The margin between winning and coming second in this game of ours is just that! Sometimes a lack of concentration, not looking at partner’s discard, not counting, and so on and so on. The players who are always successful just do the basics properly. They don’t necessarily know more than you, they just attend to the basics.
That was the sermon for today. Enjoy your day and come back refreshed tomorrow, ready for the next challenge.
See you then
PS. Mari Steyn is looking for a partner for tomorrow.
