Wow! There were some hairy, scary, difficult to bid hands today. Just look at board 9. East has seven clubs and no hearts. West has no clubs and 8 Hearts! Look at board 4!
You can make 6 Hearts, 6 Spades and 6NT. But, if you believe the Dealmaster Pro program, then 6H is makeable, certainly 6S and 6NT are makeable, but the first person who shows me how to make 6H against any defense will get a favourable mention in the next chairman’s email.
OK, so now we have the championship to look forward to on Saturday, with 48 boards to go, with the pot of gold at the end of the day!
That’s a little over the top, but you know what I mean, don’t you? That’s why we play this game. We play it for the rush we get when we open that first hand of the day, when we see a hand with real shape, when we realise that we might have a slam, even a grand slam on, just for the bidding and the taking!
The rest of the dull, grey world of non-bridge players out there have no idea, do they?
Today was a triumph for that industrious pair of dark horses,Neels and Peter, followed by Anne and Margaret and a very good third from Gary and Veronica. And then came the rest of the pack. Some real surprises today!
See you all on Saturday and just remember to get here early, because the club will be busy, with all sorts of activities taking place, hence a possible premium on parking.
Bye for now,
Roy
