Good morning all, from a a gloomy day here at Country View, but, hey, that’s good, isn’t it? Rain in the offing? Filling up the Sandpan? It was distressing to walk along the shore of the dam yesterday and see scores of dead fish washed up and many others flopping around in the shallows. It is obvious that the dam needs water, lots of it! The water level has receded noticeably in the last few weeks, because of evaporation I suppose, and now the fish are dying for reasons unknown, but perhaps low oxygen levels in the water are contributing. Bring on the rain, heavy rain, thunderstorms, water, cascading into the dam!

Enough of the gloomy stuff. Yesterday was a great turnout of the faithful, with nine full tables, excitement, competition, good hands, a good vibe, just perfect in so many ways. What was especially good to see was the high attendance of what shall I say, The Newbies?. I just love the fact that we have obviously done something right by, in the first place, encouraging new membership, then managing to draw them into our fold and developing them and encouraging them. We, the old and the very old members who have been playing since before some of our grandchildren were born, were at one time concerned at lower and lower attendance of our Tuesday and Thursday sessions, because, mainly, of natural attrition. That’s right folks! I’m talking about members dying! The influx of new blood has been wonderful and we will continue to grow our membership and continue to encourage everyone to get involved in our club, not only by playing, but also by reading, improving your partnership performance and through this, grow as players.

Yesterday the laurels went to Bridie and Paul, with Di and Trevor a scant 3 points behind in second, then Helen and Barbara in third place. Well bid, well declared, well defended to all of you.

How many Bridge players do you need to change a light bulb?
