This weekend, Sunday, the 11th November, 2018, is the 100th time that this day, called Remembrance Day, will be observed. As most of us are of an age that would relate to it much more than our children or younger acquaintances, I felt it would be befitting for us to observe a moment’s silence at 11 o’clock on Sunday. This was, of course, the exact time agreed upon for the complete cessation of hostilities between the Allies and Germany in World War 1, “The Great War”.
The Armistice of Compiegne ended it all.

” They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them”

And now to the events of yesterday, which I was unable to attend. My congratulations to our very competent members from the other side of the Jukskei River, Hans and Albert, for winning with 64.12%, followed in second by Paul and Bridie, then Pat and Deirdre.

Our entries for the Club Pairs Championship now stand at 10 tables, which is what we will now take as final.

That’s it for now, all you good folks. Amongst all the fun and camaraderie that we enjoy, I just felt it fitting to insert the Remembrance Day comments, as a reminder to us all.
