I recall it was a most memorable occasion. A grand function where we gathered the Springboks from Denis’s era to honour him, a cricketing great and whom we were privileged to have as our friend. This event is part of our history at Northerns just prior to the Benoni Cricket Club’s amalgamation with Northerns.

Donald Campbell organized the function – Denis was one of the first ever cricketers to be granted a benefit and I’m not sure exactly how much was raised I think it was about R 2000 but what I do know was that what ever the amount was, he gave it straight to a charity and to development of cricket to the disadvantaged.

A true legend Denis was.
