Bridge Results 3 May 2018
Eight tables on a cool Thursday afternoon, relaxing among our friends. What could be better? Better would be more bridge, more tables, two sections, but stop Hayward! You’re getting carried away again. But hey! it’s coming, there’s a lot of bridge being played in Benoni right now and sooner or later, we;re going to have 15 or more tables. Watch this space!
Now, this afternoon the first place went to Margaret and Anne, with Lisa and Mary close behind and Bram and Tico third. It was also very pleasing to see the emergence of some pairs who have been languishing right at the bottom for some time. I take personal pleasure in seeing lesser experienced pairs rising above the levels they have been operating at. I love to see the pleasure they get from doing better. It is what I believe this club stands for, in that we don’t only cater for the very best players. We really care for the people who try to get better, because in so doing, it raises the levels of everyone’s standard of play.
To all new members, I invite you to ask for advice at any time. We also have a considerable library of bridge books for you to take home with you and study at your leisure. Our club is your club, share the great experience of bridge with us.
In closing, please take note of what Ian was discussing today, about the rule in bridge which concerns long pauses in bidding. Remember that a long pause can be interpreted as unauthorised information to your partner, which the Tournament Director may be asked to rule on. We will be raising this again, along with several other infractions which cause concern, all in an effort to improve your knowledge of the game and thereby raise the level of play. Remember that you are always entitled to call the Tournament Director for a ruling.
Goodnight for now, I’ll see you all next week.
Roy and the gang.
