Bridge Results 26 Apr 2018
Good evening to all you bridge players. Let me just start by seconding Ian’s comments and condolences expressed regarding the sudden passing of that lovely lady, Gloria Mather. I will certainly miss her cheeriness and wit. The club is poorer for her loss. I will keep in touch with all of you regarding any funeral arrangements.
I see that everything went well today, with that rather good player Robert Stephens coming in first, together with his partner, Cathy, followed in second place by Bill and Ian, then Helen and Barbara. I wasn’t able to play today, so don’t know anything about the cards you picked up, haven’t heard any moans or groans, so all is well.
I was present at the end of proceedings today and noted that some of the bidding boxes had cards missing! In one box, there were neither 2D or 2H bidding cards. I have expressed myself about this before, when I said it was just unacceptable and careless on some players’ part. These new cards cost us thousands of Rands, so I ask you all nicely, without trying to pick on any one person, to please leave the boxes in the same condition you find them when you sit down at the table. If anyone needs a short lesson on how to replace them when you have finished bidding, I will be happy to show you.
I was somewhat surprised to be asked whether we will be playing on Tuesday evening. When I asked why, I was told that it was a public holiday. When I said OK, am I missing something, this makes it just a quiet Tuesday night, what’s the problem? Then it was suggested that certain people might be going away. For what? To celebrate Worker’s Day? May Day? Are you going to be too tired? Is Leon Schuster hiding away somewhere with a candid camera?
Seriously folks, we’re all on permanent holiday, speaking for at least 90% of us, so yes, of course we’re playing bridge on Tuesday night!
YES, WE’RE PLAYING BRIDGE AS USUAL ON TUESDAY
That’s all folks.
I’m going to bed now, to rest. To get myself ready for next week’s action.
