BNSC NEWSLETTER
Another week has passed us by as I bid you a very good day….
I really can’t believe how quickly my time here has disappeared…tomorrow marks the end of the another BNSC financial year end…and this is already my second that I am about to complete….but when I look back over the year, I can grasp what has been achieved by us, as a Club, as teams and individuals….we have all faced massive challenges and almost in each case, have overcome them and are better for the experience…As a Club, I feel that we have grown, not just in numbers (which are plain to see as our membership stats show some solid growth) but in quality too…..we have a new sub-section, our buildings have had a much needed facelift and improvements, our computerised system has enabled better control and management, our playing fields regularly receive compliments from all quarters, from both our players and opposition alike, our sub-sections received accolades and awards frequently….I am extremely fortunate to have dedicated and loyal staff to support me, for which I am eternally grateful….an innovative and free thinking, yet extremely solid and sound committee to ensure that our path forward is based on solid principles and practices…which is another of my blessings in my task of managing this wonderful Club, to deal with them individually and severally on a regular basis. As we start a new financial year on Thursday, I am filled with excitement at the potential we have available at the Club and the prospects for the future…don’t get me wrong it is not always a bed of roses, but I feel that we have learned some extremely important lessons over the year…Not every one of my personal challenges were pleasant…but they have given me more experience and hopefully some wisdom, to ensure they will have outcomes that are to my, and our benefit.
Our cricketers are riding the crest of a wave at the moment and had another solid performance on Sunday…with a clinical bonus point 6 wicket victory against Tembisa… we still top the standings in the Premier league, but things are very tight at the top…so we need to maintain our impetus and keep ahead of the chasing pack in the coming weeks….This week we have our local “derby” against Actonville Spurs….all the best boys, you have all of our support….
The Soccer boys had the week off, before they begin their leagues this week in earnest…and on Saturday our top two teams travel to Boksburg to the City Stadium….the second side kick off at 13h45, with the first side directly after them at 15h30….good luck to our fellows… give it your all boys…
Junior Soccer registration continues this week in the Ladies Bar…last week we had a fantastic turnout of new registrations…for the boys who are already Members of the Club, no need to come in, but you can fill in all their details on-line…please go to bnfc.co.za for the relevant details that need to be completed and updated.
Rugby are hard at work with their practices…any interested parties please join the rugger-buggers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18h00 to 20h30….we have an exciting season ahead for this sub-section…
I see that our Bridge section is experiencing revitalised interest…with a packed Hall on Thursday afternoon and the Monday sessions becoming very popular as well, while their Tuesday evenings still being well supported…well done to Roy and his committee for garnering such renewed support… I am sure that it is very satisfying to see all your efforts, ideas and plans being richly rewarded….
Hockey are having a mixed 8-a-side tournaments over the next few Sundays….from the sounds of things, this is going to be barrels of fun…I always remember how much I enjoyed participating in mixed tournaments…if you are wanting to play and haven’t given in your name yet…please give Shaun Taylor a call, in order for him to can slot you into a side…if you somehow do not have Shaun’s number, please phone the office, either Glenda or myself will gladly furnish you with the necessary….
Our Junior hockey are also registering their players this Saturday…as in the past, these registrations take place in the beer garden adjacent to the Ted Jarvis hockey field… we have always been extremely proud of all of our Junior sections, I hope that we will continue to enjoy a positive response that we enjoy to our appeal for our future leaders at the North.
Our Joker Jackpot grew again after Friday night’s effort by Aliaster Hamilton which revealed the two of spades….there is always a huge roar of approval by the onlookers, once they realise that the “pot” is not won…and their dream that next week it could be mine is revived…the very vocal “soccer” table is particularly vociferous in their support of the “joker” remaining in hiding for another week…and when the person selecting is one of their own…they seem to sing their songs with a little more glee and gusto than normal…which was the case last week…so bad luck Ali….but that means that this week we move up to R60 947, while the Members draw pushes up to R2 200…our entertainment on Friday are some old favourites, Coyote, so pull in and listen to their tunes, while you grab a bite to eat at the Night Market, or weave your way around the Crafts stalls that are offering their various wares….
With the new tax year has comes a little bad news…since I have joined, I have attempted to keep the pricing in the pub static….but with the VAT increase, new sin taxes and the continual rise of product prices, I will have to raise our bar prices from March 1….. We are still in the throes of finding an adequate manner in which to offer loyalty and other discounts to Members…but be assured that these will be implemented the moment they are “fool-proof”…
That’s it from me for this tax year…take care…let me know of any quips or quirks you have about the job that we are doing, or should be doing in your opinion..Email me on rod.scheepers@gmail.com …till next week…
Take care…Rod
