Bridge Results 15 Feb 2018
I’ve recovered from yesterday’s scare! I thought I’d lost all our results for the previous 14 months, but once again thanks to Priscilla for recovering everything for me.
Whew! I needed a stiff drink after that episode.
Over to the events of today, which were played out in quite a quiet hall today. Did I just say that? Heaven forbid I should praise you lot for something like that, but I found it a little quieter today and for that, I thank you.
Before I get on to the day’s results, I must also repeat what I said about the new bidding cards, which are already being mishandled, bent and missing in some cases. Please, please, look after these cards because they cost us thousands of Rands to replace. Another thing that happened today was that someone spilled some sticky substance on one of the side tables, which could have been transferred to the boards that are placed there. We totally discourage eating at the table for all of the above reasons, so please don’t hesitate to admonish anyone you observe doing this.
OK, my schoolteacher cap is now off and I want to comment on today’s session by starting off by thanking all of you for growing the Thursday numbers in leaps and bounds. We’re almost disappointed if we don’t have at least 8 tables now and as I told you we’ve purchased another 4 Bridgemates and are ready to move into two sections when we exceed 12 tables.
Congratulations to Paul and Bridie for a good win and to that pair of old guys, Ian and myself for a second and finally to Margaret and Ann for third.
Remember that Teams starts on the 27th and please read the attachments in the accompanying email, which contain the full schedule, the rules and the handicaps that will apply.
Regarding the planned kick-off of the proposed Monday afternoon teams games, I will be addressing this during next week.
All the best and welcome to Cyril and goodbye Nkandla! (That’s a personal opinion)
