Today was magnificent, with 11 full tables, some visitors from Johannesburg, one from the South Coast, and of course all the Benoni regulars.

The hall had an expectant air, the tables went quiet, well,as quiet as it ever becomes here, then the games began!

It was cut and thrust, up and down, strange distributions, squeals of both delight and frustration from some quarters, glum looks, pleased countenances, just another great few hours of bridge at Benoni Northerns.

The locals showed up with a really strong showing from Pat and Deirdre in first place, followed by Jill and Vanessa in second and that former Benonian Robert and his partner, Cathy, in third. That former Benonian has become quite good since his bridge upbringing here! Apologies Rob, I just had to chirp you, it’s always good to see your face and have you compete with us.

To just repeat what I mentioned this afternoon, the first Teams event will be on the last Tuesday of this month, the 27th. The rules of this tournament will be sent out within the next week. We also have a list of interested pairs for our proposed Monday afternoon teams games and I will be contacting all of you as soon as I able to. The target for the first event at this stage is probably the 19th, but watch this space!!

I’m now going to order another 4 Bridgemates, which will give us a total of 16.

Who would have said this a year ago! We are growing and will no doubt have to play in two sections before too long.
