We welcomed a new player and potential member tonight, Cathy Price, who hails from Hillcrest in KZN. Cathy played with Margaret and is looking for a partner for Tuesday nights. Her contact number is 079 489 7323, so if anyone out there would like to call her, please do.

I was struck by the vagaries of this game tonight, where no doubt all of us could go back and replay a hand for a better result, but what really hit home with a vengeance was that we could have come first by making one more trick on two particular hands.
That’s the margin of error we operate under when we compete against each other, it is so close, but the difference between a top, an average or a bottom is measured in single tricks that are either snatched away from careless declarers or squandered by less than careful defenders. It is these small differences that divide us from the top players who just do not make mistakes. They count, they deliberate, they visualise, they are machine-like in their bidding and play of the hand.

Ah, if it wasn’t for hands……… tonight!

Anyway, to get to what happened tonight, let’s just congratulate Paul and Bridie for coming first, with Tor and Cathy 3 match points behind and Ian and myself one behind them, in third place.

There are still email messages being sent to our club address, where they might lie for up to 5 days before being seen by myself, because I only open the site on Tuesdays and Thursdays in order to send out these emails. The new Noticeboard is there for queries about looking for partners especially so please do not send messages to the club site anymore if you are looking for a partner. Nobody might see it.
