The Scimitar 5 Dec 2017
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Hi there to you all….
On this cold and wet Tuesday morning, there are a few positives to look at….our grounds are enjoying the refreshing relief of the rain…we have some respite from the warm weather…and it isn’t the weekend….hopefully the rain will have moved on by the weekend to ensure that our cricketers and baseball players will enjoy their favourite games…The vets and ladies soccer teams are also still plying their trade…and I’m sure that the fields are nice and soft underfoot with all the rain that we have had in the last little while.
Christmas (which is my favourite time of the year) is fast approaching…everyone appears more positive and happy at the prospect of vacations and spending quality time with family and loved ones….I trust that you all are in a positive frame of mind for the coming festive season….Christmas Carols (not Boney M versions though!!), flashing lights, beautifully wrapped presents…shrieks of laughter from children (both young and old)….warm weather…splashing in pools and braais…fantastic spreads of food and drinks….prospect of over indulging….satisfying afternoon snoozes….a really satisfying time of the year for us all….I trust that everyone has their plans laid out….if you don’t and are staying home for some, or all, of the time…the Scimitar Bar will be open at the North for the entire festive period (excluding a couple of the public holidays – please see the notices on display for the times and relevant opening times).
With all the rain, we didn’t have the crowds that were wanted, or expected, at the East Rand Show…which was most disappointing to the organisers and ourselves…as we really wanted them to put their name on the map with this, their first show of its type on the East Rand. I am sure that a lot of lessons have learned…some well learned others more difficult…but I can but wish the show all the best for the future….I am really hoping that this will become a regular on our calendar for the future.
Our Social boys had their Annual golf day on Sunday and from all reports, a great day was had by all….the proceeds of the day were distributed as follows, with R990 going to the SPCA, a local Children’s Home R1000 and R6000 to the Social section that will be distributed as they see fit. I was saddened to hear that the MC of the day, Clyde Hoare, took ill shortly after completion of the day…and was rushed off to hospital…..reports are that he has improved steadily since admission, but if you could please keep him in our thoughts and prayers during this critical recovery period.
And now to Friday night…..Jerry Bayley was the lucky person to be called forward at the Joker draw….and in true Joker draw style…..his adrenalin was pumping when he came forward and was fairly forthright that he knew where the joker was hiding…and showed his choice to Glenda….only to reveal that the Joker is hiding for another week…Jerry’s card proved to be the Queen of Spades has been all the time…so another carry over an the Jackpot escalates to a staggering R274 240…this is definitely worth the effort of a R5 wager!! We also had a carry over for the members draw…so this has now hit R6000…so I call on all Members to come through on Friday to try their luck… I saw that the kitchen was fairly busy last week…despite all the offerings at the East Rand show, so well done to Marge and her team for keeping the home fires burning….she is offering Pizza to now..Try them, they are delicious….
The very popular duo of Boycott Ballad, will be entertaining us…they definitely put their own stamp on each of the numbers…and own them….I really enjoy watching Adam and Graham…
That is it for this week…short and sweet as everyone winds down for the Christmas break….kids are excited at the prospect of school holidays…parents are preparing for the trek to the holiday destinations.
If you are travelling, please drive with utmost caution….there are lots of fools on the road over this time….please enjoy yourselves and come back safely too….
To all my friends at the North…thank you for the help, encouragement and assistance….your support has made my job a lot easier here…..it means more to me than you can ever quantify…..
Cheers till next week
