We had a somewhat small crowd tonight, with 4 and a half tables, but the bridge was great. There was some really strange distribution, just look at board number 19 for example. We played in 5C, going off, but could have made it! Oh well, sometimes the grey matter just slows down a little and logic somehow takes a siesta for a few minutes.

But well done again to that very inexperienced and up and down pair of Paul and Bridie, who managed to just creep into first place again, by the very slim margin of 10%! Whew, a close call, followed by that up and coming young partnership of Ian and Roy.

Speaking of which, we had two instances of making an insufficient bid (senior moments, that’s all), which reminds me of the instance last week, which Lisa was asked to give a ruling on, where the same thing happened and our opponents opted to accept the bid, resulting in both of our opposition ending up making the same bid, which was 2NT. Our question to Lisa was simply this: “Who is the declarer?” Tricky, isn’t it?

Moving on, we’re still looking for more entries for the club championship, taking place on the 14th October. Come, come, people, get those remaining entries in to Di.
