Amidst the banging of hammers, the creaking sounds of unoiled wheelbarrow wheels and the nip in the air through torn canvas sheets, the unperturbed members of Benoni Northern Bridge Club went about their business in a measured fashion and competed, without missing a beat.
Hardy people, these bridge players, even when it got colder and the chilly breeze made it’s presence known through the aforementioned holes in the canvas sheets.
Whew!
None more so than the joint winners today, Margaret and Anne, together with Neels and Peter. Yes folks, a dead-heat! And then, Di and Trevor in third place.
My thanks to Diana for a nice friendly game today and sorry to you for the two bad bids, both of which presented presents to grateful recipients. But, don’t cry over spilt milk, Hayward, you did it yourself!

Further to my chirp the other day about little “things” we get up to at the bridge table, I am reminded of a new player at a bridge club, who is also new to duplicate bridge.
His wife leads a card and he alerts the bid and says “that’s a singleton” When asked how he would know that, he replies ” If it was a doubleton, she would have lead it with her left hand”

Oh well, that’s it for this Thursday. Have a great few days, then it’s back to bridge again. And, don’t forget to watch The Lions in the final of the Vodacom Super Rugby championship on Saturday afternoon.
