The Scimitar 1 Aug 2017
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Hi there to everyone….
When our alterations and improvements were proposed and approved, I was excited by the prospect….. But I think I still underestimated the full impact…I still have to pinch myself a little, each time I walk in the entrance and try to remember what was there a mere month ago…I can’t believe how wide the entrance now seems, the plastering appears to have added another metre of space inside…and as for the light and lowered ceiling and bulkhead…. I think the entrance is already looking amazing, let alone the full impression it is going to have once it is completed… The patio with its new paving and entrances into the Ladies Bar and Hall is also going to play an important role with easier access to these previously under-utilised facilities. I personally can’t wait to see our first really busy session in that area…I have already seen some spectators using the Ladies Bar during the Saturday soccer matches….
And speaking of soccer…what win for our boys on Saturday…to beat the high-flying Randburg was amazing…You couldn’t wipe the smile off all the players and their supporters faces….It is the first time in quite a number of years that we have been able to walk away with a full complement of points from out encounters with Randburg. With this win we have reinforced our second place in the league, still two points behind the self-same Randburg and reeled them back into the chasing pack. Well done to Jannie and his boys for a super human effort…we really are immensely proud of you!! Still on soccer, our flagship of the junior section, the Colts, have capped a very successful season and have been crowned as League Champions. Our heartiest congratulations to all the players, coaches and administrators on this marvellous achievement. They will now begin their cup campaign (which is based on the UEFA champions league)…so we can expect a home game every second week from them if they continue on this successful path. Good luck!
On Friday we hosted the Night Market, Members and Joker Draws and had Freedom Unfound playing in the Scimitar…and I am sure that everyone who attended, has to agree….that despite some chilly weather, it was a great evening. Those who weren’t here, will be overjoyed to hear that the Joker draw was not won…and we have another roll over!! The jackpot has now risen to R121 083 and all you need is one R5 ticket and your name could be on the next winners cheque. So come along on Friday and participate in the excitement of the joker draw, grab a mouth watering Steak, egg, chips and onion rings for only R70 and listen to the Music man, Brian Chubb, who will be playing in the Scimitar this week.
On Saturday, we are hosting no soccer matches (unfortunately all our sides have away fixtures), but there is Ladies hockey and of course the Super Rugby Final….in the Semi final last week, I’m sure the players at Ellis Park could hear the roars of appreciation coming from the North, as they battled their way to their second consecutive Final. For all the beer drinkers we will be having R5 off all quarts for the duration of the final. And for the Ladies, pop along…there may just be an Eish special awaiting you too… I have heard that tickets are all sold out, so all our televisions will be tuned into the match, to ensure that we do not miss a minute of the action and can all watch the drama as it unfolds…
We hosted a phenomenal Junior Hockey Tournament on Saturday…it was so good to see all the little ones running around in their various club colours…brandishing their sticks proudly…all participating to the best of their ability. Well done to Taryn Flee and her team of warriors that ensured that everything went off smoothly.
Our Cricketers held their Annual Quiz evening, which proved to be a great success…gracious thanks to all those that made the evening possible, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Saturday at the Club was a really enjoyable affair…thank you to each and every person that was present. There was a magnificent atmosphere…the tills definitely enjoyed your support of the day…thank you.
I have heard the runners out early in the mornings again…I’m starting to hear them running past my place most mornings…well done to you all on your commitment and dedication…
Next week sees the Hockey Masters descending on the North…almost 1 000 players from all over Southern Africa will be present, representing their province or in some cases country….it is going to be a blast…please support this event. It will be epic…
That is about all from me for this week…. have a great sporting week…good luck to the Lions and to each and every one of our members that are participating….above all…have fun
Cheers….take care
