Morning to all….

As I sit hear writing my quick note about the happenings at the North…I hear the sounds of progress! To some it will mean dust everywhere accompanying a cacophony of sounds…whether it be someone hammering in nails… sledgehammers hitting onto chisels that are removing bricks in walls, shovels mixing concrete or compactors making sure that our fillings are solid…..Each and every day I am able to marvel at the improvements that are made by the builders… I’m sure that as everyone else, we can’t wait for them to be completed….but I enjoy watching the progress… I have been part of the process from the beginning…when the seed was sown, to the embryo of an idea being formed…to where we currently are …and shortly we will see the final product… It is so exciting! If you haven’t been at the North for the last little while, please come and have a look…there is a set of plans available, that seem to get moved by a new interested party each day…so that the everyone can experience this exciting period at the Club.

Our Joker draw was again not won last week, with Dieter Stapel not being able to find the Joker…that of course means another carry over…and this week we are looking at the joker draw jackpot of R116 403!! For just a R5-00 wager, you could have the opportunity to have your ticket drawn and see if you are the person to show us where the Joker has been hiding all along, the more tickets you buy, the greater your chances….. This draw takes place on Fridays at 19h30, with the last tickets being sold by 19h20…. and we do still have our Members draw at 19h00, which this week stands at R2 200 and the other Club draws and raffles that are started at 19h00…. this week we host our monthly Night Market…there are a variety of food and craft stalls…so bring along the family for something to eat and wander around the Market…looking at all the goodies on show and for sale…

Our live music this week are Freedom Unfound, who have been very popular in the past, with one of the exec member being known to request a few of their cover songs over and over….join us to listen to these talented musicians, enjoy some new culinary delights…hear if you are a winner in the Members draws….or see if you can reveal THE Joker and be a massive winner on the night!!

Please accept our humblest apologies for the irregular delivery of the Scimitar over the last few weeks….we have been assured that problems have been addressed and sorted out…so the distribution this week should be back to normal…if there are people who you know of that do not receive their copy of the Scimitar this week, please let us know that we can address it immediately…..

We had a busy weekend of sports last weekend with loads of soccer to enjoy and hockey with great spectator value…All the senior soccer boys unfortunately had to share the spoils with Alberton…but we are still in 2^nd place in the league…with the teams below us having made up a little ground…We are playing top of the log Randburg this weekend and we need a big win this boys…all the best… our security measures have been beefed up for this game, to ensure that all spectators can enjoy themselves…. Our Colts are also at home on Sunday afternoon, please come and support…

I have seen that more of the Ladies hockey leagues matches are starting to be played on Sundays…this coincides with the mens leagues and means that the Beer Garden hums on Sundays with all the fines, hats and dress ups that are worn by the various different teams. There is really a convivial and merry atmosphere and is most conducive to the syndrome of…”I think I should have this one and then stay’!! Long may it continue…

This weekend sees us hosting our Junior hockey tournament on Saturday morning…this is a massively popular event, which usually draws in the region of 1 000 junior hockey players from throughout the Gauteng area…so come along and see how vibrant and strong the hockey in our province is…support our Juniors and have a bite to eat from some of the many food vendor stalls that will be available…please remember that all parking will be at a premium…so please work with our staff..they are going to be under immense pressure to try to accommodate all the supporters, families and Members that will be descending in the North….but what I can guarantee, is that we are going to enjoy a festive and bubbly day…with loads of enthusiasm from all of the Juniors…some are as young as 4…I was lucky enough to catch some of the tiny tots games last year….and I must say that it brought a smile to my face and made my heart beat a little faster…to know that this is the future of our Club…and I believe it that will be in good hands….hats off to all the coaches, committee members, volunteers and organisers that make this day possible…Good luck…may this event be as successful as the all those in the past..
