The Scimitar 13 Jun 2017
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Hi there to everybody
Another cracking weekend at the North….with the highlight for me being a Super Saturday….on the National Front, we had wins for both Rugby and Soccer…and at the North, the soccer boys showed us how ding-dong Cup-Ties are, with our top two sides winning, but leaving the spectators eating their nails down to the quick at times.
Friday again produced no winners in either of our two draws, so the Members Draw increases to R7 400 for this week, whilst the Joker draw cracked the ninety grand level for only the third time in our history. This week, we have changed our draws to Thursday (as we have a Public Holiday on Friday) but at the same time as normal…followed by an evening of Karaoke in the Scimitar….so please oil up your voices to show us what talent is available at the North…the last time was a fantastic evening…with some excellent voices on show…while there was also some outstanding talent unearthed…added to that, we found some interesting new lyrics invented that the original artist would be impressed to learn… pop along on Thursday, it promises to be a great evening… Please take note that we now have Castle Lite Draught available on tap in the Scimitar and that the Eish Tea on tap is also proving very popular too…try it when you visit the Scimitar….
Saturday was a cracker of a day…rugby showed great improvement against Sasolburg which is most encouraging…good luck to the boys for their next match, …they have some time off with two byes….on the soccer front, our second side held a 1-0 lead in their Cup tie against Corinthians until the dying moments of the match, resulting in extra time being added…our boys made sure of the result crashing in another four goals, only conceding one to walk out convincing 5-2 winners… the first team had a really disappointing first half, allowing their opposition, also Corinthians, to lead three one at the break… However, it was obvious that the coach gave the boys a bit of a roasting in the change-room…as it looked like a different team in the second half…and five goals in quick succession to lead 6-3…but to only allow the opposition back into the game with 2 quick replies…to only lead 6-5 with about 20 nail biting minutes left….Some classy finishing allowed Northerns to pull away with three more quick goals, to walk away winners by 9 goals to 5!! A phenomenal result for the Club and players…I must say that I have not witnessed too many 14 goal thrillers before…well done!! I’m sure that the beers tasted wonderful after the match. This week we host Robertsham, which traditionally is a really physical and tough encounter. I am sure that Jannie and his charges, will be really chuffed if we could bring out a massive crowd to support them on Saturday…
I noticed that the hockey players were also out in their numbers in the beer garden over the weekend…there appeared to be a lot of very satisfied players around…well done to all those who came out on top…and bad luck, better luck next time…
Our athletes came back from a really tough Comrades marathon…some looked at little like the walking wounded…but we heard some really sad stories from competitors…fortunately these were in the minority…and there were many success stories…congratulations to everyone who participated…whether you completed the race or not, we are very proud of you…I saw lots of pictures on social media…it looked like an amazing day…to those that were not able to complete the race…I wish you all the best in your following attempts….to those that were able to finish….I trust that you all achieved your goals…well done…
Soon I am sure the runner’s lives will be back into routine…and hopefully we will be seeing a lot more of them on Wednesday nights after the Club run….
I had a quick look at the main Baseball diamond and I see that Brian is having his effect there already…after only having a couple of weeks in Autumn to weave his magic…I think the Baseballer’s are all looking forward to summer on this improved surface… Best of luck with your with your fixtures too boys…they are playing on the public holiday and on Sunday…have great games…get some great results too…
If you are going away for the long weekend…drive carefully…take care and we’ll see you after your break…
Please remember that our Rugby beer special will still run during the Springbok match on Saturday….R4 off all quarts for the duration of the match…or try the Castle Lite tap in the Scimitar….or the Eish Tea tap for those with a sweeter tooth…
That’s all for today….please keep sending any complaints, compliments or suggestions to me at rod.karoe@gmail.com
Cheers, take care but have a blast!!

RUGBY
We took on the Sasolburg Rugby club this last weekend, known as the Cobra’s. Both teams lost, but must tell you guys, the other teams are very impressed with our new grounds. They really commended us on our hosting grounds and Clubhouse area. Thank you Benoni Northens for accepting us as a Rugby club.
Due to the long weekend all games are on a bye.
