The Scimitar 23 May 2017
BNSC NEWSLETTER
Good day to everyone
What a weekend….. I think Color Fun was the order of the weekend. Based on the report backs from participants, administrators, helpers and spectators the Color Run, this will become a permanent event on our calendar. There was definitely a kaleidoscope of colours available…and I had trouble trying to identify my friends and members from the hosts of green shreks, purple people eaters, blue smurfs, red Martians or the orange army… But there was one common denominator…there were lots of pearly white teeth on show…everyone was beaming from ear to ear. A very big thank you to Color Run organisers Craig and Trevor….you run a very well oiled machine. I t was pleasure to work with you and your team…by the end of Monday the was very little sign of the major blast of colour that was evident of the weekend. Also a very big thank needs to go out to my staff, who manfully stuck to the task at hand and handled everything in their stride. We are really fortunate to have such a willing and able crew to rely on.
Soccer had to settle for a draw for both first and second side, against the powerful Luso outfit…well done, a draw away from home against them is a really good result. This weekend is another “beeeg” one…Our local derby against Old Bens is being played at the North….this promises to be a massive game…based on the beer sale results on Derby Day over the past few years, I think we can guarantee another huge turnout of spectators. Please make sure make your presence felt and come along to support our boys…
And in another “beeeg” game for the weekend…our rugby boys make their debut at the North…They will playing against Kempton, who will also bring quite an army of supporters…so we need our rugby supporters to come out in numbers to shout out for our newest additions. All the best to our rugger buggers….
The ladies hockey was a little stifled last weekend as St Dunstans tried again with better weather for their music festival, meaning that all ladies games were postponed for the day at that facility, but we are sure to see crowds of ladies descending on the North after their respective matches this week again. I’m sure that the new addition to the beer garden will be well patronised by the ladies..I saw a few there last weekend…hopefully there will be more this weekend again…. I think the men’s hockey on Sunday got a bit lost amongst the throngs of Color Makers on the run of fun, but I am sure they will also return in their numbers on Sunday making their presence felt in the beer sales stakes.
Baseball make a welcome return to the North on Sunday…good luck to all our teams that are playing here. Brian has started to weave his magic on their main diamond and hopefully the results will be as spectacular as they have been on the Clubhouse side.
I must say that there have been a myriad of compliments given to me in the recent past regarding our fields and I have to concur that our fields are looking absolutely magnificent. With the Color Run, I was able to view the fields from a variety of different view-points and I personally cannot remember them looking better. Thank you to Brian, yours is really a thankless task…we all usually take our fields for granted…between you and Victor, your never ending efforts have been noticed, for which we are eternally grateful.
Friday night will be most festive once again…we have the night market (17h00 – 22h00), followed by the Members and the Joker draws. Both of the draws were not won last week…so the Members draw moves up to R6 800 (19h00) and the Joker draw at 19h30. Joker draw tickets will be on sale at R5 each (you may purchase as many as you wish to increase your chances of winning) and will be sold up to about 19h15.
A reminder, that the Green Bar are hosting a Craft Beer Festival on June 3 in the hockey field. This promises to be a memorable event, with live music, beer pong marathons, craft stalls and lots of craft beer on sale. Tickets for the event are available from the main bar….
As time continues, I will be trying to increase our range on the bar menu….I see that the addition of the Double R&R appeared to be well appreciated and most popular….A case of Tipo Tinto went missing in action after just three days of availability…. Moves are afoot to have craft beer available very soon…I look forward to hearing your comments as to whether our range is varied enough to cover the broad spectrum of Members that we have at the Club….. please let me know…either in person, or on my email listed below…
That’s all for today, otherwise I take up too much space… send any complaints, compliments or suggestions to me at rod.karoe@gmail.com
Cheers Rod
