And then it was Thursday the 20th April, and the results were interesting, to say the least!
Yours truly was playing with Vaun and a very nice afternoon of bridge it was. There is no truth in the rumour that I got dumped by Ian. He was practicing with Diana for Sunday’s memorial event at Orchards, so we just swapped partners for the afternoon.(What?)

Anyway, to get back to the bridge, some of the usual suspects were cruising along at the top, then, those two dark horses, Jill and Vanessa, arose from wherever they had been hiding for a while and blew us all away. Great game, ladies!

And then, to throw another spanner in the works, these two “newbies” who have crept up on us over the past few weeks, Caroline and Marianne, came roaring in at a gallop and seized a a really good second from Paul and Bridie. Great effort, ladies, I’m really proud of you!

Well, well! Do you know what else? We’re expecting another few new players to join up over the next few weeks, so who knows what else might happen at Benoni Northerns Bridge Club! Two sections? Articles in the newspaper? A new generation of players to take over from us when we finally shuffle off into the sunset, holding hands and shouting ” why didn’t you return my lead, you idiot?”

Get serious, Hayward, enough of that.

I know I speak for all our committee members when I express excitement about the small, but significant growth that is taking place in our membership right now. We are looking forward to a really successful year, full of exciting bridge and new friendships over the bridge table.

Now its really late and Troy wants me to put the lights off. He gets grumpy when his sleep is interrupted.
