Apologies for repeating my remarks from the other day, but the room was very hot, and the bridge was even hotter! We had seven and a half tables, because we had a late withdrawal, on Friday night, which was a pity, and we really tried to fill the void which was left, but were unsuccessful. This, however, did not spoil what turned out to be a really good day, with bridge, tea and snacks(thanks to Di, who is getting one year older quite soon), followed by more bridge, hamburgers deluxe, more bridge, afternoon tea and coffee, even more bridge, then the prize giving!

Our champion pair for 2016 was Di England and Barbara Goldman, with a magnificent combined score of 62.31%, followed closely by Hans Lombard and Albert van Lier, our very welcome visitors from Pretoria Bridge Club. Third place was taken by Helen Roberts and Deirdre Ingersent. In terms of the rules, and the fact that Hans and Albert are not members, the official runners-up in this, the BNBC Pairs Championship will therefore be Helen and Deirdre.

A strange hush settled over the hall of Benoni northerns main Club house on Saturday 3rd December as 30 serious individuals pondered over how to make (or defeat) a nominated contract when the Bridge section held its annual Pair’s Championship.
This was an innovation for the Club as in previous years the competition has been held during normal Tuesday and Thursday sessions. All participants enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to more full-day events in 2017.
Congratulations to the Championship winners, Di England and Barbara Goldman with Deirdre Ingersent and Helen Roberts as runners up.

In the afterglow of what was quite a stressful tournament to organise, I wish to particularly thank our ever willing committee of Lisa, Di and Ian for all the background work that goes into making a success of such an event.

Finally,let us not forget you, the players, the aficionados of this beautiful game that brings us back to the table, week after week, year after year. You are the backbone of our club and we, your committee, are privileged to be able to serve you in our mutual enjoyment of bridge.
