The Scimitar 30 Sep 2021
A fabulous morning to you all
We are finally in the midst of spring feeling…as last weekends weather and temperatures were amazing and warm, filled with plenty of sunshine….but with some thunderstorms having already made their presence known, we must be aware that the warmer weather may not always play along with our plans….the dust has at least settled a little and the world is beginning to turn a beautiful green and having a fresh feel and smell…
Joker Draw
Ah well…..after almost 40 weeks of trying to find someone to lure the Joker out of hiding….we found a willing treasure hunter…..Trevor Joss, now a social member, had his name extracted from the beeeg black box on Thursday night and confidently strode up and pointed out his selection…..I did check if he was sure that he didn’t want to alter his selection…..but he was pretty adamant and insistent that his choice was final….and the Joker made his appearance from his hiding place!! Amid much screaming, whooping, laughter and cheering, he jumped and sprinted around the pub “high-fiving” anyone who was willing to share in his happiness….. this joy was caused through the winning of R49111 on the night….a most sizeable amount to fill some of the holes in pockets, that have been caused through the tough conditions over the last couple of years…..well done Trevor, I hope that SAB had enough stock for the celebrations…..
That means the joker draw will start up again this week….beginning with an opening jackpot of R10000…..so come along this week and try your luck and see if we can find the Jester in the new pack….remember that as a Member, you still have two chances at the cherry…..there is a card standing above the joker cabinet each week….if a Member’s choice matches that card on display….they will receive 10% of the Jackpot onto their membership card….this card changes each week, so keep your eye out for the current selection!!
Legends Night Market
With all the changes in the Lockdown, we are finally able to host our night market….this Friday we welcome back all the exhibitors, foodies, live music and stall holders….they will be open from 17h00 to 22h00….it is the first time that our coffee shop, Home Ground, will form part of the festivities….so if you haven’t had a chance to whet you appetite on their fare, this will be your chance….
Soccer
Our soccer boys had some disappointment last Saturday, as their opposition (Impala Plats) could not field a side due to the long weekend and work commitments….but the super league side were able to play their “catch up” match against Impala last night…and came out victors over Impala 3-2….a most satisfying result, well done….we are now lying in 3rd spot in the league….due to the curfew, we cannot complete both sides matches on one night, so the reserves will be playing tonight, also against Impala… This weekend we travel to the table toppers, Robertsham….hopefully we can eke out a positive result and consolidate our position in the league. We have had some great feedback from the soccer officials, that we can have spectators with some strict COVID protocols relating to social distancing, hand washing and mask wearing….but that is at least some good news for our spectators….with the derby coming up on the 2nd last weekend of October (also our 2nd last match of the season)… we are expecting a bumper crowd in support for our teams…keep it in your diary!!
Hockey
Hockey is slowing down at the moment with the last two weeks of matches being completed by the 10th of October….the league leaders will be trying to extend or maintain their position, while the pretenders to the crown will be scrambling to claim their rightful place….expect some fierce competition and plenty of analysis and post mortems in the beer garden after the conclusion of play….
Cricket
This weekend Cricket are hosting a fun festival…. all sorts of cricket matches and other fun for all to participate in are planned….there will be food and snacks available while the Coach will also be on site for light refreshments…. Please come along and have a look….it promises to be super time for all.
That is all for this week….hope you are all well…come in and say “hello”….we miss not seeing you all….
Keep well…stay safe and take care…
